Backcountry Riding Skills

Are you new to backcountry skiing or snowboarding? Do you want to make the most of your “earned turns?” This is a full-day clinic focused on backcountry skiing and riding skills in preparation for truly enjoying your backcountry experience. Students will spend the morning on groomed slopes focusing on making good turns and learning proper technique. Students will then progress off the groomers to learn the techniques for riding off-piste slopes and practicing skills in variable terrain and snow conditions. Each class will divide into beginner/intermediate and intermediate/advanced skill groups.

Required Equipment: Students must have their own skis or snowboards*. These classes will be taught in-bounds so avalanche equipment is not required, and regular downhill equipment is acceptable if you don’t own backcountry-specific equipment. Students also must have at least some minimal previous experience skiing or riding at a ski area.

Cost: $125 for one class.

No classes are currently scheduled

(This is great add-on to our Introduction to Backcountry class taught the prior Friday and Saturday! Discount when registering for both courses, or for both ski skills classes!)

*Our friends at Ski AK, Black Diamond, AMH, Blue & Gold, and REI sell all the gear you need for this course, and to enjoy your time in the backcountry! Equipment rental is also available from AMH. Alaska Outdoor Gear also offers avalanche gear rentals (probe, beacon, shovel). Blue & Gold offers splitboard rentals.
