Arctic Valley Ski Team

Do you have children who love to ski?
Have you ever thought about youth Ski Racing?

It may be the middle of summer but I want you to stop for a minute, read this and start thinking about the upcoming 2018/19 Ski Season.

Announcing the return of the ARCTIC VALLEY SKI TEAM in 2018!

The return of competitive alpine ski racing to Arctic Valley is going to be an “old school” approach to ski racing. Skiers will be introduced to the world of Alpine Ski Racing and become overall better skiers by learning how to ski the variety of terrain and conditions that Arctic Valley has to offer!

AVST will offer

Affordable skiing, Experienced Coaching, Affordable Training, and Better Terrain!

Head Coach Ray Leroy

"I come with over 20 years of FIS racing experience and 15 years of coaching and training at an elite level in multiple extreme sports. I am looking forward to passing on my knowledge of alpine racing with years of coaching experience, Let’s put Alaskan athletes back on the map! I have full support from the management of Arctic Valley Ski Area."

Arctic Valley Ski Area is only a 25 minute drive from just about anywhere in Anchorage and pending snow cover will be open every weekend. The lodge provides excellent visibility of the entire venue. Skiing at Arctic Valley is very affordable, the T-Bar offers skiing for all abilities and will allow our racers to maximize on snow time.

Free skiing ranges from medium to steep and will teach your Jr Racer how to overcome any type of slope or terrain they encounter! Over the last two years Arctic Valley’s new winch cat has provided us with reliable/consistent grooming and has allowed us to establish a new alpine race/training venue at Arctic Valley!

  • $250 = 1 day / Sunday Recreational Division program (ages U8+) to build better skiers and serve as an introduction to alpine racing and compete in the Youth Ski League (YSL)
  • $1000 = 2 day weekend Race Division program (U12 and up) (U10s accepted pending coach's evaluations) Compete in USSA-level races & YSL!
  • $2000 = 4 day Th/Fri/Sat/Sun Race Division program. (U12 and up) Compete in USSA & YSL!
  • $500.00 = Thursday & Friday evening sessions at Hillberg from 5:30-7:30. This is open to anyone (U10 and up) who wants to get more time in the gates.
Racer Season Passes and Family season passes (regularly $550 for a family of 4) will be available to all AVST members at a discounted rate.

The Rec Division will be run overseen by Head Coach Ray Leroy and will be run by the Divisional Coach, experienced coaches and volunteer coaches. The Rec Division skiers will meet once per week at Arctic Valley, with the focus on fun and becoming better skiers that are able to navigate any conditions and terrain. The Rec Division will prepare your racer to compete in the (4 race) Youth Ski League Series in January - April of 2019.

This program is still available for the super low price of $250.00 and that includes the YSL race fees.

USSA Races are not a required part of the REC Program, Race fees are additional, contact me with questions if you have a REC Skier wishing to compete in USSA Races.

With the guidance from Coach Ray and support from a qualified group of Coaches, Parents & Volunteers, the AVST will be offering a full on Alpine Race program under US Ski & Snowboard Association (USSA). The 2 and 4 day Racer Division programs will be directly supervised by Coach Ray Leroy and race experienced, certified USSA coaches:
  • 2-4 days of On-Snow Training per week @ Arctic Valley, Hilltop, Alyeska or Hillberg
  • Dryland Training
  • Athletic Evaluations
  • Video Analysis
  • Ski equipment support – selections, discounts
  • Ski tuning and preparation instruction and clinics
  • USSA liaison and committee representation
  • Travel and competition support – coordination of entries, transportation, accommodations, technical support and supervision
Any Racers U12 (ages 10+) and older who wish to compete in USSA races will be required to sign up for a USSA Competition License. It's understandable that families can't always commit to the requirements of a full 2-4 day race program. Any racers (U12 and older) competing in USSA races will race and train with the Race Division when they ski, even if they are only doing the 1 day per week program (they can attend Saturday or Sunday).

We are looking for coaches and volunteers

Paid Coaches (with ski racing experience) 2 days per week
Volunteer Coaches (with or with out ski racing experience) 1-2 days per week
Parent Coaches (no racing experience needed, just a love to ski) flexible days
Volunteers In General (Lodge Moms/Dads, Admin, Parent liaisons) flexible days
