Arctic Valley Ski Area hires a small staff of paid seasonal employees so we can provide a consistent experience to our guests. Please note that some of these positions are weekend-only, some full-time, and all are based at Arctic Valley Ski Area.
Applicants under 18: Only positions marked with an asterisk (*) are open to applicants 16-17 years old. Arctic Valley is unable to employ people under 16 years of age due to our alcohol permit.
Applicants on work visas: Arctic Valley is unable to sponsor employees on J1 or H2B visas. We are able to employ applicants who already have a sponsor and are looking for a second job.

Youth Ski Team Head Coach
Position Summary
The Head Coach will provide on- and off-snow leadership, organization, enthusiasm, and a positive environment for coaches and athletes. The Head Coach will hire staff and volunteers, set training schedules and objectives, and ensure follow through with coaches. They will ensure athletes and parents are aware of the training schedule, and work with Operations to ensure adequate training space and conditions. The Head Coach reports to the Arctic Valley Ski Area General Manager with oversight from the AVST committee.

The Arctic Valley Ski Team (AVST) is a program of Arctic Valley Ski Area, and is owned and operated by the Anchorage Ski Club, a 501(c)(3) membership-based community organization. We’re passionate about providing affordable, high-quality outdoor skiing and riding experiences for Southcentral Alaskans.
Compensation & Benefits
This position is full-time October through April, with a summer stipend paid May through September.
Salary: $35,100 for Oct-Apr, summer stipend $6435 for May-Sep
Ski area perks, including family season passes and reciprocal benefits with other Alaska ski areas

Reimbursement for professional qualification courses and dues
Possible summer work at the ski area helping with off-season maintenance to make this a full-time year-round position
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Program
In consultation with the AVST committee, establish and maintain the long-term goals for the ski team
Recommend changes to AVST’s structure and objectives as needed
Update and maintain AVST’s curriculum for each level
Implement development of athletes, including technical, physical, mental, and equipment preparation skills
Plan and execute dryland training
Staff
Recruit, interview, hire, and retain alpine coaching staff
Ensure coaches have the necessary skills and certifications for their assigned responsibilities
Ensure coaches follow the curriculum for their assigned level
Provide support to coaches as needed to ensure athlete development goals are met
Mentor junior coaches to develop their skills
Foster a fun, high-performing, and collaborative culture
Athletes
Oversee development planning for athletes
Maintain a strong on-snow presence as an active coach and mentor to staff and athletes.
Venue and Training
Work closely with Arctic Valley Ski Area leadership to plan training space and availability
Ensure race and training venues are prepared and managed safely and effectively
Support course preparation, fencing, snow preparation, and venue logistics with coaching staff
Organizational Collaboration
Represent AVST in USSS Alaska Division meetings
Work with Arctic Valley Ski Area GM to plan AVST’s budget
Provide support for race-related events at Arctic Valley (Merry Marmot, ShredFest)
Parent & Community Communication
Establish consistent and professional communication with parents
Support marketing & communication efforts to recruit athletes to the program
Establish working relationships with other ski teams to encourage cross-utilization of training opportunities and support for events
Administrative Responsibilities
Oversee TeamSnap (registration & payment)
Maintaining a culture of athlete safety in accordance with SafeSport and USSS standards
Ensure compliance with organizational, divisional, and national standards
Summer
Planning for the next season, answering inquiries from current and prospective parents & athletes
Qualifications and Skills
USSS coach’s and official’s certification, SafeSport background check
History of increasing responsibility coaching youth programs
Excellent relationship and communication skills
Good computer skills and detail oriented
Team player and intrinsically motivated
Manage personal stress effectively and support staff in managing their stress.
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. on a frequent basis and perform manual labor and physically demanding duties on steep and uneven, mountain terrain in inclement weather.
Mountain Manager – Full Time, Salaried
Position Summary
Arctic Valley is hiring a hands-on Mountain Manager to oversee lift maintenance & operations, grooming, vehicle maintenance, snow removal, and ski patrol. You will lead a small operations team (2 full-time lift & vehicle mechanics, 1 full-time operations assistant, and ~20 seasonal employees) and be directly involved in day-to-day maintenance and operations. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced ski area operations professional to step into management or for someone with related mechanical/operations experience to enter the ski industry.

Key Responsibilities
- Perform off-season and in-season maintenance on lifts and groomers
- Ensure lifts are prepared and safe to run according to schedule
- Troubleshoot and repair lift, hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical issues as needed
- Supervise, hire, train, schedule, and manage staff in lift, grooming, vehicle, and snow removal roles
- Oversee vehicle and equipment maintenance and parts purchasing
- Coordinate with ski patrol and other departments to maintain safe mountain operations
- Complete required documentation, inspections, and safety checks
- Perform other related duties as required
Required Qualifications
- Prior supervisory or management experience
- Experience with electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical troubleshooting
- Advanced skier or snowboarder
- Ability and willingness to work at heights on lift towers in all weather conditions
- Ability to work outdoors in all conditions; ability to stand, kneel, manipulate objects with fingers, visually inspect equipment, listen for abnormal machinery sounds, and work on ladders and equipment above ground level for extended periods
- Reliable transportation
- Minimum 18 years of age
- Clean driving record (at-fault collisions, DUIs, etc)
- Ability to pass a federal background check for explosives license
Preferred
- Direct experience with ski lifts and groomers (preferred, but relevant mechanical/ops experience considered)
